Education

Language Education

Sophia University offers language courses in 22 languages, a truly unique offering. Most students study English and one other language, but many students study three or more languages.

Language Learning Commons (LLC) supports language learning for undergraduate and graduate students as well as international students. Sophia has plans and initiatives to motivate students to learn languages and give back to their classes and student life. The LLC also provides books and DVDs that can be lent out to best support students who wish to pursue language study in a variety of ways.

A Place for Student Interactions: Sophia Student Integration Commons

“I want to communicate with international students more!” and “I want to make friends with Japanese students!” are common themes at Sophia University. Sophia Student Integration Commons (SSIC) holds a number of student exchange events in response to these’ requests. In addition to on-campus programs such as “Ikebana” (flower arrangement) and “Chado” (tea ceremony), which are jointly organized by the Ikebana and Tea Ceremony clubs, and “Nihongo de Nanaso” (Talking in Japanese during lunch with Sophia University staff), there are also a variety of field trips such as “Agricultural Experience” and “Hiroshima Tour” during the longer holiday breaks.

To Sophia Students

“Student Information Service” has been established so that students who do not know which department to consult or are not sure whether they should consult with the university can feel free to ask questions or make inquiries.
Depending on the details of the consultation, students will be connected to various departments of the Health and Wellbeing Center, other departments of the university and to external organizations if it’s needed.
